Geo Specialty Terrorism and Political Violence team expands to boost regional support to brokers and clients

Geo Specialty is delighted to announce the appointment of Paul Robinson to its growing Political Violence and Terrorism business.

As business development manager, Paul will work with brokers across the UK to deliver expertise and fast service for business owners and to drive awareness of the need for cover and the breadth and quality of Geo’s wording

Paul joins from Pool Re, the government backed terrorism reinsurance scheme, where as head of distribution, he worked alongside underwriters as well as retired senior military leaders, and counter terrorism police officers. Prior to Pool Re he held a number of senior UK and global positions at Eagle Star and Zurich.

Paul says: “I am passionate about terrorism insurance and in particular the need to raise risk awareness and cover among SMEs. Whilst there are 5.4 million SMEs in the UK equating to 99% of total UK businesses, it's estimated only 5% actually buy terrorism insurance - or are even aware that their standard policy excludes the cover.

It was with this in mind that I was attracted to Geo Specialty. I was looking for a forward looking, ambitious and agile company, that is broker and client focused, and who share my passion to drive terrorism insurance take up.

Geo Specialty Head of Terrorism and Political Violence, Marcus Meredith, comments: “Paul is a fantastic addition to the team as we look to continue to deliver and adapt our offerings to brokers and their clients, as the risk landscape continues to shift.

The pandemic has put the spotlight on business interruption wordings, and we’ve had an increase in enquiries from businesses who appreciate the certainty our policies provide for non-damage BI claims. We’ve also had an uplift in business from brokers who are expanding their search for alternative terrorism cover to reduce the overall property premium to their client overall. Having Paul onboard will only strengthen our ability to give brokers the tools they need to discuss and advise their clients on the coverages available, pricing and placement strategy for terrorism cover.

Paul is a fellow of the CII and a Chartered Insurer. He is also an active Mentor supporting programmes for young next generation leaders at Zurich and helped launch and support the insurer’s Women’s Innovation Network as a male ambassador.

Geo Specialty Managing Director Nick Sharp comments: “This is another example of how, as a specialist MGA, we are adding to our knowledge and expertise to further enhance our specialist offerings. Paul is a major addition to the successful team led by Marcus, and I am sure he will bring all of his knowledge and experience to bear as the Geo Political Violence business continues to go from strength to strength”.
